Across
Frontiers - Spring 2004
Weapon
Industry
by Dr. Charles Mercieca
(continued from the previous issue)
In addition
to the ten countries (Britain, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, India,
Bangladesh, Iran, China , Turkey and United States) we can
mention Japan and Saudi Arabia that promised to give financial
assistance as well to help build the nation which
simply means to help build the creation of a strong
military power. The war philosophy is so deep in the
heads of most governments that they are thoroughly incapable
of thinking peace, in any way whatsoever. In that case, how
can the leading nations of the world assume the responsibility
to bring about world peace?
The terrorism, which emanates from the weapons industry, could
be brought eventually to complete stop. But we must do our
homework well and we must work hard. Like the Center for Defense
Information in Washington, DC well proposed we should start
encouraging and putting pressure on people to quite working
for the weapon industry and not to seek jobs with it. This
is a matter of individual ethical pride and responsibility.
Besides, we need to have the nations of the world, which seek
for more weapons to feel ashamed of themselves. Instead, all
nations should seek for better schools and hospitals as well
as for more environmental protection from air and water pollution.
Besides, such governments need to seek for providing the homeless
with prefabricated homes as to give their respective citizens
a sense of respect and dignity.
In conclusion, we are all familiar with the phrase: History
repeats itself, like former British Prime Minister Sir Winston
Churchill often stated. If that is the case, this is a vivid
example of how the weapons industrial complex uses the US
government to plan and plot present and future wars on a constant
basis merely to keep its lethal product in business. This
explains why the only thing that really matters for the United
States and its self-proclaimed allies is to build a strong
Afghanistan military power as to guarantee the continued destabilization
of the region in the future. In view of what has been stated,
we may full realize and comprehend why the weapons industry
may be viewed as the greatest source of terrorism in the world
today.
